CLEAN SWEEP
Partners of Parks has set Saturday, Jan. 9 for its first park Clean Team Day at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1901 Lemon Ave., from 8am to 11am. Participating volunteers will receive a T-shirt as well as automatic sign-up for Disneyland’s “Give a Day, Get a Day” ticket program. Service learning hours are available to students. Check-in time is 7:45am, and all cleaning supplies and refreshments will be provided.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Long Beach Republican Women Federated’s first breakfast meeting for 2010 will be Saturday, Jan. 9 at Lakewood Country Club, 3101 Carson St. at 10am. Speaker will be Jana Shields, candidate for Long Beach City Council 1st District. Alex Burrola with the Republican Party of Los Angeles County will report on voter registration plans. A “SUNNY” PROPOSITION
The Solar & Sustainability Task Force’s next meeting will feature Long Beach Sustainability Officer Meredith Reynolds, who will provide updates on the Office of Sustainability and the city’s Sustainability Plan. There will also be an update on the upcoming Solar Grand Prix, a solar model car race. The Task Force will now be meeting on the second Monday of each month, instead of the fourth. DON’T FORGET…..
Who hasn’t forgotten someone’s name, misplaced their glasses or walked into a room and forgotten why they entered? The UCLA Center on Aging will offer a five-week “memory training” course which teaches practical techniques for enhancing memory abilities and is designed for people with age-related memory concerns. The class is not intended for people with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. The $50 program will meet five Wednesdays, from Feb. 3 through March 3.
