ROSIE THE RIVETER IN LONG BEACH
The March 6 meeting of the Long Beach branch of the American Association of University Women will feature author Gerrie Schipske and her book Rosie the Riveter in Long Beach. Fifth District Councilmember Schipske will discuss the unprecedented number of women who came to work at the Long Beach Douglas Aircraft Plant to make planes for the war. INFORMATION DESTRUCTION
Shred-4-Good, a social enterprise of Goodwill Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County (SOLAC), will continue hosting monthly open houses on the second Tuesday of each month. The next shredding event will be Tuesday, March 9 from 8 to 10am. The first box is free; each additional box is $5. The event is open to residents and businesses in the South Bay and Long Beach area. Documents will be shredded on the spot, and Certificates of Destruction will be issued. Shred-4-Good is AAA certified by the National Association for Information Destruction. POW WOW AT CSULB
California State University Long Beach’s 40th annual Pow Wow, an American Indian social celebration, returns to the campus’ Central Quad on Sat. and Sun., March 13-14. The two-day event will feature American Indian dancing, arts, crafts and food, and opens at 11am each day, running until 10pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday. Admission is free, and parking is $4. Great spellers are sought for Justin Rudd’s 9th Annual Elementary School Spelling Bee on Sunday, March 14 at 2pm. The competition is open to students in grades 3-5.
